35-year reunion a big hit!
Greetings Classmates from the Class of 1979!
Our 35-Year Reunion was held the weekend of July 11-12, which happened to be the same weekend that the Blue Angels had an airshow on Pensacola Beach, so there was an added bonus for those who were traveling from out of town.
The following events were held for our Reunion Weekend:
Fri July 11, 6:00 pm: Happy Hour Mixer, The Fish House, downtown Pensacola
Sat July 12, 6:00 pm: Dinner / Dance, Heritage Hall in Seville Quarter
Over 50 classmates, plus many spouses and dates (but not at the same time) came together for our Friday night happy hour / mixer at The Fish House on picturesque Pensacola Bay. For some classmates, this was their 1st reunion, and catching up after 35 years was especially fun. We quickly discovered that the pre-printed nametags, with pictures from our senior yearbook, needed a much bigger font so that our 50-something eyes could see better. There was a lot of "Tell me who are you again?", followed quickly by "Wow! You haven't changed a bit!".
The Saturday night Dinner/Dance was also a tremendous amount of fun. We had a nice meal, and danced to our favorite tunes from the 70's.
Rod Hamme and his dance partner Stacie dazzled the crowd with a West Coast Swing performance, and Martha Dungan Rose sang a solo, providing awesome entertainment. What a talented group!
Our very own Class President, Harry Bailey, spoke briefly to the gathering, with his usual grace, sincerity, wit, and heart-felt comments. Thanks Harry!
We had a slide show running in the background throughout the evening, with "Then" and "Now" photos of our classmates, followed by a video of our senior year Homecoming football game and halftime show. Thanks to Debbie Hernandez for providing the footage.
For those on Facebook, lots of folks have posted pictures from both events. We will be posting more on this site shortly... stay tuned.
And besides providing the entertainment...
Special shout-out to Rod for being the "official" photographer for both events. Great job, Rod!
And also, thanks to Martha for providing the excellent table decorations.
We also want to thank everyone for making the effort to reach out to other classmates and encouraging them to come.
We received several suggestions for improvement, and we will definitely do better next time.
See you at the 40th, if not before!
